HG 1/144 RGM-79SP GM Sniper II - Review
While I’m pretty eager to get on with building the RG Zeta, I wanted to revisit this kit properly first. So it’s time to review the HG GM Sniper II!

Being a UC suit, blocky panels make up the bulk of this unit, but it’s brimming with vents and verniers all over. I especially like the backpack, it’s huge! A bit of painting was required to finish this kit off – namely a heck of a lot of red on the backpack, leg and shoulder boosters. I lined the kit with a Gundam Pencil and also used this to detail parts of the shield and upper chest.

Articulation

Articulation is pretty good, this kit has some of the smoothest joint movement I’ve encountered, especially the legs. Side skits do tend to get in the way a bit, and although the hands have a wide range of movement, they are prone to popping out often. The kit’s sturdy though and the joints have no problem supporting the weapons provided(unlike the original HG GM Sniper). The dark-blue part above the visor is a cool reticle for sniping which can be slid down. The shield can be mounted to either forearm and can twist and pivot. You also get 5 hands, two right-hand weapon grip, two left and right-hand clenched fist(for beam saber) and one left-hand open.

Weapons

Plenty of weapons! The main armament is a beam sniper rifle – a refined version of the long range beam rifle of the original GM Sniper which is much smaller and requires way less power. A bullpup 90mm machine gun is also provided, it’s a cool design but the top-loading magazine gets in the way a bit when posing. And finally we have two beam sabers, which are mounted on the rear skirt. The beam saber hits come in two parts, which there’s very little reason for, in fact it makes them quite fiddly to remove from the skirt in one.

It’s not a weapon, but the RH-35E Draken is a really nice addition, it’s tiny which made it a bit of a challenge to paint, but I think it came out ok in the end. It comes with two sets of arms, one normal and one set to turn it into a cargo loader, I opted for normal.
